ABSTRACT

The intention of this investigation is to make a proposal of access to wireless broadband point to multipoint voice and data services, that satisfies the present necessities of communication in the NPI, being based on the study of 3 wireless broadband point to multipoint terrestrial systems for fixed users: Multichannel Multipoint Distribution Service (MMDS), Local Multipoint Distribution Service (LMDS) and Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access (WIMAX). The studied population was conformed by 67 employees of West PDVSA's Telecommunications Management, having made a population census. It was used as instrument of data collection a questionnaire of 18 items of closed questions in order to know technical, economic and security problems that at the moment affects the telecommunications network of West PDVSA and which are the more important requirements and necessities. The methodology used for the present study was based on the Method of Life's Cycle for the development of information systems. An analysis was made on the advantages and disadvantages of the 3 wireless broadband point to multipoint terrestrial systems studied, concluding that the best alternative for the NPI is WIMAX technology. Finally was designed a proposal of access to wireless broadband point to multipoint voice and data services for the NPI, being based on the selected technology.
